Week 8 Reading and Writing
After looking over the reading and writing assignments that I've done in my blog, I can say that I'm pretty happy with my progress. I've enjoyed writing stories much more than I thought I would, and I'm actually pretty happy with the way they've come out, for the most part. I've also enjoyed reading stories from different cultures, although I've struggled to come up with a good note-taking strategy. I find that with the shorter stories, it can be hard to comment on things like plot pattern and writing style, because there just isn't much content. I've definitely been able to retain enough information to adapt the stories, though.
As far as my storybook goes, I'm really liking the layout and I've had fun picking images and designing the site. I like the theme I picked, although it's been a little more challenging than I had expected to find and adapt stories for my theme (LGBTQ+ folktales). Most of the stories I've been reading week-to-week are about animals and don't have anything to do with romance or gender identity, and I don't want to shoehorn it in. Maybe I'll have a little more luck in the coming weeks.
All in all, I'm glad to be taking this class and getting a little break from my major. It's been far more time-consuming than I expected, but staying ahead of schedule has helped me feel pretty on top of it. I'm definitely looking forward to finishing my storybook, and to refining the stories I've already written.

Hey Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI came across your post while going through the blog stream for the class. I totally agree with you in that I have enjoyed the storytelling in this class more than I anticipated because it is definitely not my strength as a student. I hope you have a strong finish to the semester and best of luck going forward.
