Storybook Favorites

Alice in Relations
Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite books as a child, and I think the modern, technology-based twist on it is funny. While the title didn't tell me much about the nature of the stories included, the introduction page not only explained the premise of the story, but also gave a glimpse of the author's motivations for choosing that topic. The use of GIFs in the stories is also fun, as it gives the page some movement. I like the layout in general, and the use of images, but I may choose to use a darker background on my own storybook.

Real Housewives of Greek Mythology
Real Housewives of Greek Mythology is a pretty great topic, because Greek mythology really lends itself to the reality television format, which is what makes it so entertaining. It was also different from many of the other stories I looked at in that it took the form of a script, rather than a short story. The introduction was informative, eye-catching, and funny. The layout was also very good, in my opinion, but the text of the script was very small on my computer screen, so I had to zoom in to read it. That may be something to be cautious of if I choose a similar format.

Bedtime Stories
The stories in this page were not familiar to me, but the first-person perspective of the stories made them very engaging. The introduction gives less information than the other two, but it does explain the general theme of the storybook. In terms of the design of the site, I liked that the banner at the top is more simple and the attention is on the words and images used in the page. I also like the use of light text on a dark background, which is easier to read and sets the mood for the post.

  1. I am glad you looked at different aspects of the story projects, Natalie! That is something really fun about doing this kind of writing and doing it online: you get to think about what material to start with (Alice and Greek mythology are always popular choices!), and then what kind of storytelling style you want to use (infinite possibilities), and then also the online presentation: some people stick with just the basics of getting their text online, but other people get really excited about the technological possibilities, including things you could never do in print at all, like choose-your-own-adventures using Twine (like in this OU ghost story). Every semester is full of new surprises based on what people dream up for their own stories! :-)
