Feedback Thoughts
The first article I read was Make Good Art: Neil Gaiman's Advice on the Creative Life, Adapted by Design Legend Chip Kidd. I really appreciate this perspective on creativity and productivity, especially when it comes to artistic pursuits. Especially as a young adult, it's comforting to hear that someone who is regarded as a great artist has basically been bumbling through life trying new things and failing and picking up again. I fully believe in the "make good art" philosophy of dealing with difficult parts of life. However, I might change the phrase to "make bad art" in some cases. I think it's equally productive and equally cathartic.

The second one I picked was Why Rejection Hurts so Much - and What to do About It. The tips in this article may be good to keep in mind. I used to really struggle with receiving negative feedback, but I've grown to appreciate helpful feedback and disregard unhelpful feedback in the last few years. Specific feedback tends to be most helpful. Whether I become a good writer or not through this class, I will at least learn about my interests and maybe get better at receiving and using feedback on something I'm truly a beginner at.

Hey Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI am glad that I read through your post about feedback strategies as it made me aware of tips from some articles that I have not read. It is great to see that learning from mistakes is a key part of life. It is also good to read about handling negative feedback.

Hey Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI liked your other feedback post so much, I decided to take a look at this one as well. I think it is really great you have pushed yourself to grow and understand the point of negative feedback or constructive criticism! This class must be really pushing you to the limits which is what college is all about. Good for you!
